What is Interventional Pain Management?
Interventional pain management is a discipline within pain management aimed at assisting patients relieve their chronic pain. Interventional pain providers receive specialized training, going beyond medication administration, to help patients deal with pain. The ultimate goal is improving quality of life by restoring mobility, function and lifestyle.
Interventional pain providers, with the use of patient history, physical exam and radiographs such as X-ray, Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) and Computed Tomography (CT), first diagnose the problem and treat chronic pain accordingly. The problem causing the pain can be treated with a variety of interventional pain procedures including, but not limited to: Steroid Injections, Nerve Blocks, and Radiofrequency Ablations. Often, several visits to your interventional pain provider may be necessary to ensure optimal resolution of pain to a tolerable level.
